Prof. Yu Yongzhang, born in 1934 in Yixing, Jiangsu Province, founder of the School of Chemical Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University, doctoral supervisor, China's leading expert in the field of compressor, passed away at nine o'clock today.
Prof. Yu Yongzhang was one of the most influential figures in China's compressor industry*, a professor and doctoral supervisor of the Compressor Program at Xi'an Jiaotong University; his book, "Volumetric Compressor Technical Manual", has become a must-have reference book in the compressor industry, and provides strong theoretical and academic support for the development of China's compressor technology.
Biography:
Prof. Yu Yongzhang graduated from the Department of Power Mechanics of Jiaotong University in 1957, majoring in internal combustion engine, and then stayed in the university as a teacher and moved to Xi'an with the university. He served as the director of the Compressor and Refrigeration Department of Xi'an Jiaotong University, the director of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and the dean of the School of Chemical Engineering.
In 1957-1958, he studied teaching and scientific research in compressor and refrigeration with experts from the former Soviet Union.
In 1985-1986, he studied and worked as a visiting scholar in Heilicke Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Purdue University, USA.
In 1988, after working in the Renewable Energy Laboratory of Purdue University for half a year, he was appointed as a member of the Advisory Board of the International Compressor Engineering Conference in the United States. As the initiator and chairman of the organizing committee, he chaired the ** and **2 International Compressor Technology Conferences in Xi'an and Chengdu.
Since 1994, he has been appointed as a senior consultant of the General Machinery Compressor Industry Technical Committee; a senior member of the China Refrigeration Society; and a chair professor of the Department of Refrigeration Engineering at the School of Mechanical Engineering, Wuxi University of Light Industry.
He has been the consultant of the editorial board of Compressor Technology; senior member of China Refrigeration Society; consultant of several compressor enterprises; awarded the National Science Congress Award and the State Council Outstanding Contribution Award; co-editor of Volumetric Compressor Technical Manual, co-author of Natural Gas Vehicle Fueling Station, co-editor of Compressor Engineering Handbook; completed the 863 project together with the institute colleagues:;Frequency Conversion Driven Natural gas vehicle refueling station development, won the second prize of science and technology in Zhejiang Province and mechanical society; with domestic compressor companies to develop; high-pressure polyethylene secondary compressor.
In 2015, in order to better promote the development of chemical education and cultivate more excellent talents in the field of chemical engineering, Prof. Yu Yongzhang set up the Yu Yongzhang Education Development Fund in Xi'an Jiaotong University. The fund aims to help students with financial difficulties and reward individual students with outstanding performance.
Now, although Yu has passed away, but his academic spirit and writings in the compressor industry still play a light and heat.
He is gone, but his spirit lives on. Prof. Yu Yongzhang, we should always remember!
